The complexities of a mother-daughter relationship in the Eritrean diaspora
I retrieved several notes centered on love and life inspired by my travels throughout Eritrea in the summer of 2014. Some were written in hindsight.
When I met Regat, I immediately sensed her spirit animal a dolphin. Her playfulness, coöperation, and inner strength are what makes her beautiful. Not to mention her gift of gab. My aunt, Regat, cherishes emotional human contact and is the first person to laugh at her clumsy habits despite what life has hurled out.
A foreigner and a handsome local meet at a dress shop. The foreigner requests a custom-made outfit. The local is a garment worker at the shop and now assigned to make the dress. What will happen once they lock eyes?
